| Coat: Dense, curly, wavy. Most common colors are black, brown, white, black and white, or brown and white. |
| Care: Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required. The curly-coated variety is generally closely clipped only at the tail, in much the same manner as a working retriever. The wavy-coated variety is generally closely clipped at the hindquarters and nose. |
